Some people like a vacation full of thrilling adventure, while others prefer a laid back retreat. When your vacation brings you to Fort Morgan, you’re getting the best of both worlds. This getaway spot gives its guests private, quiet beaches while still offering proximity to restaurants and attractions. Here are a few of our favorite things to do while you’re here.
Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge
Start your exploration of the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge at the Visitor Center, located on Fort Morgan Road, to learn about the local flora and fauna and chat with refuge staff who can provide helpful information, maps, brochures and checklists.
Nature enthusiasts will love exploring 4 trails with over six miles of flora, fauna, and wildlife. What kind of animals might you see there? Look out for alligators, six lined race runners, armadillos, red fox, bobcats, and over 370 species of birds that have been documented!
The main intersection of Fort Morgan Road and Highway 59 is only about 2 miles away from these two adventure-filled attractions. Entertain everyone in your crew – from the littlest to the adults – with mini-golf, go-kart rides, kiddie rides (like a carousel, swings, frog hopper, and planes), plus arcades for indoor and air conditioned fun!
The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo
Known as The Little Zoo That Could, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is a fun-filled mecca of interactive entertainment. Guests can purchase food to feed animals (like donkeys, sheep, goats, and deer), plus take part in animal encounters. The encounters available vary, but include activities like playing with a lemur, cradling a kangaroo, or holding a snake.
Some people don’t even consider it summer until they’ve been on a waterslide. If you fall into that category, then head straight for Waterville USA upon arrival! Water playgrounds, wave pools, simulated surfing pool, body and tube slides offer an entire day’s worth of fun. Add in the amusement park full of go-karts, train rides, a roller coaster, arcade, and escape room, and you may need to take multiple trips to Waterville!
A vacation on Fort Morgan road should definitely include a trip to the actual Fort! Fort Morgan was constructed in the early 1800s and used during the Civil War. Not only can visitors immerse themselves in history while perusing the grounds, but there are also plenty of places to picnic, fishc and spend time on the beaches.
